Homebirth Midwifery Care

Thank you so much for considering me on your birth team.  I am currently in the final phases of apprenticeship with with Chelsey Isaacson of Celestial Midwifery and Gènnisi Birth Collective. After many years of training, I await the opportunity to sit for my board exam. I will be considering very limited homebirth due dates for July 2026 and beyond. If you’re still interested in learning more about Homebirth and how I can support you as your midwife, feel free to book a consult.

Licensed Midwives in the state of WI are trained medical practitioners that provide comprehensive midwifery care throughout preconception, pregnancy and birth - through six weeks postpartum. Midwives care for low risk women and babies, providing longer, personalized visits and more individualized care than their high-risk, high-volume obstetrical colleagues. Think of midwives as experts in low-risk care, viewing pregnancy as a normal physiological event that sometimes requires a gentle guidance or skilled intervention to safeguard the health of the mother-baby dyad. We use our hands through skills like palpation to determine the size, position, and attitude of your baby. Our ears and eyes are trained to notice minute details from visit to visit, and our intuition and educational background guides our decision making. Midwives are trained to screen and monitor for symptoms and high risk situations in a timely manner and seek higher level of care when necessary, which keeps low risk birth safe and provides for excellent outcomes. Midwifery care is highly sought after for its ability to provide a calm, informed, and supportive birth environment and experience, in the comfort of your own home.

Midwives provide 45-60 minute appointments every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly until the birth of your baby.

Standard care options like laboratory, genetic screening, gestational diabetes screening, diagnostic ultrasound, and more are available options to you during your pregnancy through outside collaborative services like Seedling Diagnostic and LabCorp. We also collaborate with hospital based midwives and providers for smooth collaboration of care in the event where a tool or further support is needed. Each and every option along the way, however, will be an informed choice discussion where you are in the driver’s seat and I will be there to provide the benefits, risks, alternatives and additional resources to all.

Postpartum visits are similar in length and occur at 24-48 hours post birth, 1-3 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks, all in the comfort of your own safe space. During this time together, I’ll help with standard State of WI newborn screenings including newborn metabolic screening, CCHD (critical congenital heart defect) screening, and newborn hearing screening. After birth, I’ll file paperwork for birth certificate and social security card, and assume primary care and assessments of you and baby until I sign off at our 6 week visit, during which time I can send records to a family practice physician or pediatrician of your choosing. It is not uncommon for visits to include any wide range of questions about medications, postpartum healing, breastfeeding and lactation, cord care, normal newborn behavior, and so much more!

Midwifery Collaborative Care

The same supportive prenatal care visits at regular intervals, with collaboration from the hospital based provider of your choosing. Research shows that the midwifery care model is the safest option for low risk women, and more and more women are choosing this care model. For a multitude of reasons, some women may not want to or be able to birth at home for healthcare reasons. I believe these individuals still deserve the wholistic mind/body support of a midwife. In this model of care you choose hospital birth as your ultimate plan of care when labor begins, but work with a midwife throughout your prenatal care. Typical visit lengths are 30 mins - 1 hour. Records can be sent at regular intervals throughout care to your hospital based provider. Labs and ultrasounds can be ordered through your hospital of choice, or from any of our trusted community partnerships.
